The Bombers preferred contact mouthpiece is part of the recently-launched moulded range of bits from the pioneering bitting manufacturer. The preferred contact has cylindrical sides, and is flat through the middle section.
The cylindrical sides are slightly ribbed, to flex onto the bars (the interdental area) at the bottom of the horse’s jaw.
The flattened centre pad bends over the tongue, to soften tongue pressure. The tongue pad is an elongated circle, angled at 45 degrees to sit flush against the tongue and palate.
The articulated ribs on either side of the tongue pad allow the cylindrical sides some independence, and the tongue pad some stability.
Which horse is this suitable for?
The preferred contact mouthpiece has been specifically designed for cases where Bombers’ tongue relief methods have not worked, and some form of tongue pressure must be considered.
It helps spread bar and tongue pressure more evenly. We have had good feedback for hacking and jumping especially.
The Bombers philosophy always tries to distribute and spread the pressure, especially away from sensitive areas; however, with some horses, this is not always preferred.
The preferred contact is considered to be a good option for the horse that objects to metal, or for when you have tried every kind of bit without luck!
There are over thirty cheekpiece styles available, including all of the most popular cheekpieces, such as eggbutt, loose ring, fulmer, dee, kimblewick and 2½ ring.
As with all of Bombers’ steel components, the cable core and cheek piece will be covered by the manufacturer’s lifetime guarantee. This does not extend to materials that can be chewed, e.g. the outer mouthpiece, however.
