Two great titanium dressage bits to consider –  Loose Ring Happy Tongue and Loose Ring Lock Up
July 20, 2022

Did you know you can search the Bombers website by governing body?

If, for example, you go to Home (bombers.co.za)/ Dressage / Association / British Dressage / Single Bridle, you can find all of the allowed mouthpiece and cheekpiece combinations that BD considers ‘legal’ within dressage. That’s well over 100 bits to choose from, from the Bombers range.

Here are two of our most popular dressage bits in titanium – this metal is unbelievably lightweight, and ideal for equines that have small mouth conformation, and do not suit heavier bits:

Loose Ring Titanium Happy Tongue

Loose Ring Titanium Happy TongueKey Features

The Loose Ring allow for immediate release and relief from tongue and bar pressure. The bit is immediately reset to a neutral position in the horse’s mouth.

The Happy Tongue is a solid mouthpiece uniquely ported to give maximum tongue relief. The standard Happy Tongue is curved to be softer on the bars, and is slow in applying tongue pressure.

Cheekpiece

Bomber’s preferred cheekpiece! The loose ring cheekpiece is available in 3 sizes; large, standard and a slightly smaller model for a pony. Bomber highly recommends using a bit strap on a loose ring, as it stabilises and minimises the mouthpiece sliding through the mouth. Consider bit rubbers as a precaution.

Mouthpiece

This is by far our most successful design  –  we recommend the Happy Tongue for all young horses and those that show tongue sensitive signs. The 4 available ports have been scaled according to each width. This ensures accurate fitting over the bars, and eliminates the rocking movement which occurs when the port is too wide. The Happy Tongue is also available as a straight mouthpiece, which has a slightly stronger action.

Loose Ring Titanium Lock Up

Mouthpiece

The lock up mouthpiece creates a comfortable bend; it reduces pinch and spreads pressure points around the bars.

The centre elliptical joints in the lock up have been double locked to ensure that the angle over the tongue remains correct; even when the reins are taken up, it retains the individual lateral aids.
