The Liverpool varies depending on which mouthpiece it is coupled with,
• Solid mouthpieces, the cheekpieces are fixed to the mouthpiece and do not rotate on the vertical.
• Broken, Semi-Broken or flexible mouthpieces, the cheekpieces rotate on the vertical, allowing the mouthpiece to set in the mouth, moving independently from the cheekpiece.
The port creates relief for the tongue while the barrel joint relieves pressure on the bars, while still allowing for individual lateral aids.

Cheekpiece

The fixed cheek provides lateral aids and allows for variable options for the reins to adjust poll and tongue pressure.

Mouthpiece

The centre joint is hindered from making its full movement, thereby limiting the bit’s action and lessening the pinch. The Liverpool cheekpieces rotate to allow the mouthpiece to set in the mouth.
