Dressage rider Kirsten Wing shares more news & views for Bomber Bits
February 16, 2021

Kirsten Wing is a South African dressage rider, studying a PhD in sports therapy. “I love Bombers Bits – they’re made by horse people, and for horse people, and it shows,” she says. Kirsten’s pictured with her top ride, Ravel 322.

What would you’d tell your younger/teenage self?

“I would tell myself to listen more. As a youngster, & even now, I am so passionate that I forget to pause and reflect upon some of the learnings. There are coaches and riders that, looking back, I would have liked to spend more time with, or absorb even more from, but who for various reasons are no longer with us. Gone too soon.”

Which horse would you have like to have ridden, or to ride?

“I think I share this with many riders but I would love to have sat on Totilas or his father Gribaldi while they were alive. Not because I expect the riding feeling to be completely different but because of who they were as characters. They have revolutionised the sport. Watching Totilas in Hagen I felt like a child: excited, mesmerised and desperate to ‘sit on that pony’!”

What will you be doing in 20 years time?

“Working hard and enjoying horses: whatever that may look like. I hope I will have followed the opportunities to adapt and change in ways I can not predict.”
