Bombers is fortunate enough to work with a range of innovative and dynamic retailers around the world, such as the UK’s Forelock and Load. The Suffolk-based bricks and mortar store, which also operates online, is well-known as a countryside specialist, with a self-declared purpose of fulfilling customers’ love for the outdoors.
With a specialism for shooting and countryside pursuits, co-proprietor and director Kirstie Johnston also wanted to develop the brand to reflect her extensive experience within equestrianism, having been surrounded by high-level equestrians throughout her professional career, from the disciplines of eventing, dressage, show jumping and horse racing.
Kirstie has expertise and experience working with professional and amateur riders, as well as all shapes and sizes of horses and ponies. “My knowledge, combined with a deep passion for the horse’s comfort when being ridden, makes an ideal match to Bomber’s mission to allow horses to work more harmoniously with their riders, whatever their chosen discipline,” reflects Kirstie, who works closely with elite riders including Bombers and Forelock and Load ambassador, eventer Caroline Powell, to aid the eventer’s bitting needs.
“Forelock and Load began working with Bombers Bits eight years ago at the retailer’s inception, selling the new-to-market dressage range, and offering specialist fitting and advice services,” explains Kirstie, pictured above left with her eventer, Buddy. “My brother and I set up Forelock and Load eight years ago, and we have carved ourselves out a great reputation with our customer base. We are dynamic in our thinking, and always looking for new products to bring to market.”
Kirstie. pictured right with Bomber Nel, seems to have horsey blood running through her veins. “I was very fortunate to be brought up with ponies. I started riding before I could walk and really enjoyed Pony Club, hunting and show jumping. I then started riding racehorses at the age of 11 or 12, which turned into a career,” she says. “I have always been surrounded by people at the top of their equestrian sport, and through this, have gained a huge amount of knowledge and a keen eye. Whilst working in the racing industry shadowing vets and asking questions, you learn a huge amount; and having a brain where you always want to learn has aided me no end!” Kirstie muses.
Initially Bombers bits were revered in the UK for their polo expertise, and the brand’s experience and knowledge-base in the general riding sector was less well-known. Over the years, Kirstie has forged a strong relationship with Bombers, and together they have invested a lot of time and knowledge to build the brand within the ranges at Forelock and Load, a retailer holding one of the biggest stocks of Bombers Bits for hire and purchase.
