Dee Ring Happy Tongue
A horse shaking its head when bit pressure is applied or its tongue trying to escape the bit are classic signs the horse has a sensitive tongue. With this in mind the Happy Tongue was created, it has a medium port creating space for the tongue, relieving pressure, allowing the horse to relax.
The classic signs of a horse with a sensitive tongue are all to do with avoiding pressure:
shaking its head from side to side
- putting its tongue out
- putting its tongue over the bit
- sucking its tongue back
"A horse is an animal of flight. It will never yield to pressure or pain it will either move away from it or run away." Bomber Nel
Therefore pressure = resistance = lack of control.... with this in mind the Happy Tongue was created, this solid mouthpiece has a thinner port which is uniquely curved, all this creates space for the tongue and relieves pressure.
The Dee Ring is very similar in action to the Eggbutt , it will prevent pinching of the lips and gives a slightly more solid feel against the side of the face. It also prevents the bit being pulled through the mouth. The release is slower and some slight poll pressure is introduced.
All our bits are made from blue sweet iron, because it:
- oxidises easily
- encourages salivation
- helps bit acceptance
- is warm and sweet
Please note the blue will fade with use.
