Footstick trick competition

footstick trick (trav and lynton)I picked up Travis and Lynton from the Timm farm in Mooi river at about half 8, - from there we set off off for Carolines place in Greytown, about an hour and 45 minutes from Peitermaritsburg. After driving down this dusty road for about half hour, both myself and Lynton began to worry about Travis and his directions - but we eventually came into sight of Carolines garden - and the catastrophe that stood before us- she really should be commended for taking on all those kids, it’s a real service to polocrosse and the parents whose kids are there, they really do enjoy it and it makes for a great week. Down at the fields there are a load of kids riding around, they are throwing the ball to each other in an excited yet drilled manner with Caroline riding amongst them shouting instructions and chasing them into the correct positions, we approached the edge of the field and there was a group of kids who greeted us. ‘ Are you Travis ?’ said the one girl to Trav, who then ran off giggling when he replied. footstick trick (trav and lynton)Trav and Lynton began to worry it was time to drill them on their demonstration ‘how many kids are here?’ and ‘we don’t have to say anything do we?’ were some of their worries, eventually they convinced Vincey to join them for the demonstration, their theory being safety in numbers I guess. We were up, Caroline sat the kids in the shade of tree and briefly introduced us, I noticed the amount of kids it was quite a crowd, I began to nervously bounce the ball around ‘right guys we are here from Bombers….’ And we started our demonstration explaining the use of footsticks and the benefits to speed and hand eye coordination, and how our national players used it as part of a warmup\ practice schedule, Travis Timm, Lynton Bauer and Vince Potgeiter 3 of the 4 boys in the national u16  side going to Australia next year stood before the kids and demonstrated a range of tricks that could be used in the Bombers footstick trick competition next year,  finishing off with a signature trick each- exhibiting the level of skill we hope to see in many more of our young players in the future. We then split them up into groups each taking them off to give them a more one on one lesson on some of the basic footstick tricks, presentationit was encouraging with some of the kids getting them after only a few practice efforts - amazing how quickly they learnt a trick its taken me a month to learn !!! eventually after they’d all had a turn Caroline got them up on horses again for another ride which was proceeded by a dash for the pool to cool off from the heat, we had arranged for Fergus Buchan to come over he had two development kids at the camp who he helps out and gets playing polocrosse and whom we have tried to help out every year, this year we were giving them footsticks which after our demonstration had them both beaming with delight, finally we wrapped things up and we headed off to drop Trav and Lynton off - thanks a bunch to those two for coming along and helping me out with the demonstration it was great for the kids to see you have the time for them and polocrosse so well done.
