Lauren Cant hails from Geraldton Western Australia she is 16 years old and plays for Moonyoonooka Polocrosse club. She travelled out to South Africa during 2009 with her father to play polocrosse, as well as impressing the polocrosse community with her play she also impressed with her conduct its great to have her on our global juniors site she had the following responses to some of our questions
Q:How long have you been playing?
A:9yrs
Q:What makes you keep coming back to Polocrosse for more?
A:The adrenaline rush you get when you gallop down a field while taking hits from the opposition, nothing quite compares to that! Also just having fun and seeing yourself and your horses go well.
Q:What is the most important thing to focus on as a player learning Polocrosse?
A:Just playing the game, doing your best and always trying to improve on even the smallest things. Also never giving up, there is always going to be another chance.
Q:What is your most memorable Polocrosse moment?
A:Playing good against the QLD team at the 2008 Perth Polocrosse Nationals considering only days earlier I fell off and fractured my shoulder blade. I was told i wasn't going to be able to play the nationals which is the worst feeling I've had, but the best feeling was getting back out there and giving it my all.
Q:What are you looking forward to?
A:Going back to South Africa and playing again.
Q:Which horse, if you could have any in the world, would you choose?
A:I'm pretty happy with the horses I've got now. They do me well.
Q:Every player has a signature technique, favourite move/maneuover, pick up, catch or throw. What is yours?
A:Lobbing the ball up very high and long when I have a free throw or am throwing the ball over the 30yard line. It comes up higher and when you get it your already in front of everyone. Its either that or the famous Cant Sisters Double Duck, Dive, Weave manouver :)
Q:Who do you think is the best player ever?
A:Jeffery Martin. He is always cool, calm, relaxed and is an awesome rider.
Also Rob Sibley, Troy Henry and Trish Jones. But there are plenty who will be the best players soon enough, like Lucy and Jimmy Grills, Australias finest Juniors.
Q:What made you first take note of Polocrosse and start enjoying the game?
A:Watching my eldest sister, Nikki Cant, start playing. She always looked like she was enjoying herself and I wanted the same fun she's always had from the game.
Q:Who was the toughest player you have had to play against?
A:I can't think of one perticular person, but the toughest Junior player I've had to play against would be Lucy Grills. She is an awesome player and is always putting in her best effort.
Q:Can you remember the first time you fell off and what happened?
A:I would have been about 5 at the time and my sister forgot to tighten my girth. My saddle just slipped off the side and I went with it!
Q:What was the most jaw dropping thing you have seen happen on the field?
A:The Mens final at the 2005 Great Southern Western Australian Nationals Selections Tournament. Midwest where down by 11 going into the third chukka, and ended up defeat central by 2 goals!
Q:If you could change one rule, what would it be?
A:I'd have to agree with Lucy on this one, where you start your swings from. About head height, right they way around would be great :)
