Weipe - July 2009

Weipe is located in an idyllic spot right on the Limpopo near the border between Zimbabwe and South Africa, situated in an area flush with game farms and ranches the landscape wheezes a breath of fresh air across your eyes and you can feel yourself relax into the process of driving through another of Africa’s great landscapes.

The pleasure of the drive is soon superseded by the row upon row of seemingly endless orange trees and the vast expanse of other crops in cultivation that greet you once you drive onto the farm where it is located, There are 3 expertly manicured fields and you can really see the time and effort that has gone into creating this awesome venue, arriving in the late afternoon we couldn't help but  enjoy a few beverages whilst discussing the events to follow on the weekend along with the usual polocrosse banter.

Saturday’s play started with 9 o’clock games and the flow of polocrosse was continual until about 12 o’clock where lunch was taken and the sponsors from john Deere demonstrated some of their awesome machinery by putting one of their TLB’s through its paces with a fantastic demonstration. This was followed by an entertaining game of soccer played by the grooms. The afternoon games continued as usual and things wrapped up later with the last game at four.

Saturday evening started with an early game drive through the game farm with everyone piling into some orange bucket trailers being pulled along by tractors, although we didn’t see much game (too much noise Terrence) we did see some and it all made for a very pleasant drive which ended in a tour of the cotton gin back near the fields. That night there was a braai followed by the usual evening festivities.

We left early on the Sunday at nine o’clock and were unable to watch the games and be at prize giving, the A division was won by the barbarians followed close by Arnot and Dragons, the Barbarians  consisted of Matt Deveraux, Aubrey Strauss and Lauren Cant, the Australian players have been out since IPT and have been a real pleasure to have around, thanks to them for taking the time to come out here as well as to all those involved in hosting and horsing them it was greatly appreciated and really enjoyed…. The B division was won by Bethal a  who were Johan Strauss, Pat Nkosi and W. Deysel.   the C division was won by Dragons  who were David Peterse, Sue Pilley and Butch Pilley. We also had a junior division which was won by Limpopo H Juanie, Lelanie and Zandri. Well done to all the division winners and thanks to the players for keeping us entertained.

We must congratulate the Limpopo crusaders, who put together everything and hosted the event it was a fantastic weekend and to the people who worked on putting together this great tournament well done guys it was worth every kilometre and we will be doing it again and to those who couldn’t make it this is definitely one to scratch onto your calendar.
