SA vs Australia U16 in Sale Australia
Over Bomber and Trish went over to Australia in conjunction with the South African junior and senior tours. This saw the juniors play Australia in 3 test matches over the Easter weekend.
The first test was played after a heavy downpour of rain which had the Field like mudbowl and saw the Australians in front for most of the game only to be hauled back by some stunning play by the South African junior Boys in particular Graham Maclarty and Travis Timm who brought them back to win the game 21 - 18 it was a fantastic game which set things up for some hard fought polocrosse over the next 2 tests.
The second test saw both teams settle a bit which is possibly why the scores were high, but it also again saw the South African team pull it back to win by 27 - 23 it must be noted that Lucy Grills of the Australian U16 girls was one of the strongest players we have seen at U16 level in a long time and the South African girls did very well to hold her and her girls back enough to give the boys some breathing space so a special well done to Lee Higgs who really played out of her socks.
The third and final test was poised for another South African victory, but saw the Australian side change their game plan and come out firing with the boys who had been out shined in the first 2 tests stepping up to the plate and really playing well combined with their strong girls the battle was fierce with neither team stepping aside. Special Mention must be made of Jimmy Grills who really played well and in the end the Australians managed to take it by 22-21 an extremely closely contested game and maybe a fitting way to finish the series.
Well done to all the players and coaches involved in producing this fantastic polocrosse spectacle and hopefully we can look forward to seeing more of this from our juniors in the future.
